SURGICAL SIMULATION STUDIO

Surgical Simulation and VR Training
for Medtech and Medical Education

Procedure training built to measure: realistic, measurable
and specific to your device, not a generic anatomy demo. When the training is about clinical reasoning rather than the hands, see virtual patient simulation.

For 25+ years, Pixel Medical Animation has built 3D and interactive training for medical device companies, clinics and medical education.
Surgical animation, interactive anatomy applications and VR training, developed in-house. Based in Europe, working with teams across the US every day.

Surgical Simulation Services We Offer

From a linear surgical animation to a full VR simulator, built on the same 3D pipeline and reviewed by people qualified to say whether it is true.

What Is Surgical Simulation? (And When You Need It)

Anything built so that a clinician can see, follow or practise a procedure without a patient: a 3D surgical animation, an interactive anatomy application, or a virtual or augmented reality experience in which the trainee performs the steps.

The sequence, before the scenery

A procedure is an order of steps. If the order is wrong the piece is wrong, however good the render is.

Anatomy a surgeon recognises

Built from imaging and clinical documentation, and reviewed by someone qualified to say whether it is true.

The decision points

What a trainee needs is not the smooth version. It is the moment where two things could happen and one of them is wrong.

Training and residency

Protocols and procedures rehearsed before they are performed, in a headset or in an interactive application.

Medical device and technique launches

Showing a surgeon how a new instrument or approach changes the steps they already know.

Congresses and scientific sessions

A procedure that cannot be filmed, shown in a room full of people who will judge whether it is accurate.

BENEFITS OF SURGICAL SIMULATION AND VR TRAINING

4

Practice without a patient in front of you

A procedure can be repeated as many times as it takes, with no theatre time, no cadaver and no risk, until the sequence is automatic.

5

Your device, not a generic procedure

A simulation built around your instrument teaches the surgeon your steps, which is what shortens the learning curve and the sales cycle.

4

It shows what a camera cannot

The inside of the body during the manoeuvre, the plane that matters, the moment where two things could happen and one of them is wrong.

5

It is measurable

Steps completed, time per step and the decisions taken are recordable, so training stops being a matter of opinion.

5

One build, several uses

Congress version, training module and device-launch cut share most of the assets when the output list is agreed at the start.

WORK PROCESS

1

Brief & kickoff

We start from your data, goals, audience, and deadline. You bring the science and the message; we tell you what’s possible and how to make it land.

2

Script & storyboard

We turn the science into a clear narrative and a visual plan you approve before any animation begins, so everyone’s aligned while changes are still cheap.

3

Style frames & 3D modeling

We lock the visual style and build accurate models of your molecule, device, or anatomy.

4

Animation & production

We animate, light, and render in structured review rounds, so your medical, legal, and marketing stakeholders can all sign off in step.

5

Delivery in every format

You get the master plus every version you need — congress, web, social, sales, subtitled, or interactive.

Timelines & What to Expect

You will always know what stage you’re in, what you’re approving, and what comes next. Most projects run 4–10 weeks from brief to delivery, depending on length and complexity. Working against a congress or launch date? Tell us the deadline up front. We plan the entire production backward from it and after 25 years of trade shows and launches, we’ve hit a lot of them.

Factors That Determine the Price of a Surgical Simulation

A linear animation, an interactive application and a VR simulator are three different builds, not three finishes. These are the factors that move the figure.

Animation, application or headset

A linear surgical animation, an interactive 3D application and a virtual reality experience are three different builds, not three finishes.

How much anatomy has to be built

Existing models and imaging data shorten production. Building the region, the instruments and the tissue response from zero does not.

How many steps the procedure has

A single manoeuvre and a full protocol with decision points are not the same project.

Clinical review

Someone qualified has to confirm that what the piece shows is what happens. That is part of the schedule, not an afterthought.

Languages, deliverables and support

Text, voice-over and the output list are agreed before production rather than after it, and setting up the headsets at the session is part of the project.

What this Investment Buys You:

Scientifically Accurate

Science that’s accurate and review-ready, not just pretty.

Full Ownership

Full ownership of your animation and every deliverable.

Every Format, From One Partner

Every format your team needs, from one partner.

On-Deadline Delivery

A studio that hits the deadline your project is built around.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SURGICAL SIMULATION

What counts as a surgical simulation?

Anything built so that a clinician can see, follow or practise a procedure without a patient: a 3D surgical animation, an interactive anatomy application, or a virtual or augmented reality experience in which the trainee performs the steps.

Should it be an animation or an interactive application?

An animation is better when the goal is that everyone understands the same sequence in the same way. An interactive piece is better when the goal is that the person does something and finds out whether they got it right. The budget and the setting usually decide.

Who confirms that it is clinically accurate?

You do, with us. We build from imaging and clinical documentation and we expect a clinical reviewer on your side. A surgical piece that has not been reviewed by someone qualified is a liability, not an asset.

Can it be used at a congress?

Yes, and it is one of the most common uses. The constraint is time per visitor: a session has to be short enough to repeat and clear enough to run without someone explaining it.

Do you build for virtual reality headsets?

Yes. Standalone headsets need no computer or external sensors, which is what makes them practical outside a lab. The platform is part of the brief because it determines how much detail the experience can carry.

What do you need from us to start?

The procedure, the steps you want covered, who is going to use it and where, the imaging or 3D material you already have, and the name of the clinician who will review it.

How long does it take?

It depends on the number of steps and on how much anatomy has to be built. We give a schedule with the quotation, and the part that moves it most is clinical review, not production.

Can it be reused after the first use?

Usually, and it should be planned from the start. A training version, a congress version and a device-launch version share most of the assets if the output list is agreed before production.

The team that worked on my project took it to the next level. I came in with an idea, and they helped turn it into something far more powerful—with a real WOW effect for our clients. They delivered ahead of schedule and were completely professional throughout. What really surprised me was that we didn’t need to make a single change between the draft and the final version. For me, they’ll be a key strategic partner going forward.
