What has to be modelled and how many versions come out of it is most of the difference. These are the factors that move the figure.
Geometry and materials
Transparent, metallic and liquid finishes take longer to light and render than matte surfaces.
The environment
A product on a neutral background is one thing. A product in a clinic, a home or a laboratory is another.
The version list
Launch piece, rep version, trade-show loop, web and packaging cut. Agreeing it early is the whole saving.
Claims and review
A commercial product film and a regulated device film do not have the same review cycle.

What is medical product animation?
3D animation that shows how a healthcare, nutrition or consumer health product works and why it is different, built from the real product rather than filmed.
How is it different from medical device animation?
Product animation is for commercial products and consumables; device animation is for regulated equipment, where mechanism, placement and regulatory alignment matter. They are built the same way but answer different briefs.
Can you animate the product before it exists?
Yes. If there is CAD, a prototype or a formulation, the 3D can be built during development so the launch material is ready when the product is.
What do you need from us to start?
Whatever exists: CAD files, packaging artwork, the formulation, previous photography, the claims you are allowed to make and who has to approve them.
How many versions do we get?
As many as you need, and the list is agreed at the start because it is one of the factors that determines the price. A launch film, a stand loop, a web cut and a tablet version share most of the work.
Who reviews the claims?
Your own team. Anything a product animation states about what the product does is a claim, so the review is part of the schedule rather than something that happens at the end.
How long does it take?
Between four and twelve weeks depending on scope and on how much has to be modelled from scratch.
Can it become an interactive experience later?
Yes, and it is worth planning for it from the start. The same environment and the same 3D assets can be reused for an interactive or gamified version.
