What Is Medical Device Animation? (And When You Need It)
3D that shows the device functioning exactly as intended, including the internal mechanisms hidden inside the body, so sales teams, surgeons and regulators understand how and why it works.
Marketing and sales
3D device animation shows mechanism, placement and benefit without opening the device or filming a procedure. It is the piece your sales team can show in any room.
Training, IFU and remote support
The same 3D model becomes training material and visual instructions for use, and supports remote assistance when a technician cannot be on site.
Regulatory and scientific support
Animation built on your own data and reviewed by your teams supports regulatory and scientific documentation. For consumer and commercial products rather than regulated equipment, see our medical product animation.
The product from the inside, not just the outside
A photograph shows the finished device but not what happens inside it or how it is used. With a system whose value is in how it delivers energy or moves inside the body, the outside is the least interesting part.
Before the device exists
3D can be built from CAD while the product is still in development, so the launch material is ready when the device is.
One model, every piece afterwards
The same validated 3D model becomes the launch film, the trade-show loop, the training module and the interactive demo.
BENEFITS OF 3D MEDICAL DEVICE ANIMATION
It shows the part that sells the device
The mechanism inside the body, which is where the value is and the only part a camera cannot reach.
It is ready before the device is
Built from CAD during development, so marketing, training and regulatory material exist on launch day.
It shortens the sales conversation
A rep who can show the mechanism in thirty seconds does not need to describe it for ten minutes.
It serves training and regulatory too
The same model becomes instructions for use, training material and support for scientific documentation.
One build, every format
Launch film, trade-show loop, web cut, tablet demo and AR, all from the same validated model.

VISUAL SOLUTION
Strategic visual communication for MYTHRA
At Pixel Medical Animation, we helped Novasonix Technology transform the presentation of the MYTHRA system into a clear, engaging audiovisual piece aligned with its technological positioning. The animation was designed as a one-minute video, structured to capture attention from the very first seconds through a conceptual introduction that connects the origin of fire as a primal technology with the evolution toward laser energy. This symbolic transition reinforces the message of innovation and naturally leads into the reveal of the brand and the device itself.Using photorealistic 3D animation, we present the system through a full rotation based on the supplied 3D model, carefully reproducing materials, finishes, and proportions from real product references. The software interface is integrated into the device screen, while graphical bullet points and English on-screen text highlight the system’s key differentiators in a clear and visual way—making the technology easy to understand across both commercial and digital environments.Commercial Impact
Commercial Impact
- Enhancing commercial and technical presentations: The MYTHRA 3D animation can be seamlessly integrated into sales presentations, technical demos, and meetings with distributors or investors. It allows complex technology to be explained clearly and visually, reinforcing innovation, credibility, and brand professionalism.
- Increasing visual impact at aesthetic congresses and trade shows: The animation becomes a powerful asset for booths, fairs, and medical-aesthetic events. Displayed on large screens, it captures attention instantly and communicates the value of MYTHRA in a direct and memorable way—even in highly competitive visual environments.
- Driving customer acquisition across web and social media: Animated content can be integrated into websites, landing pages, and social platforms to attract, educate, and convert new clients. 3D videos make laser technology and its benefits easy to understand, improving digital user experience, increasing engagement, and strengthening Novasonix’s online presence.
WORK PROCESS
1
Brief & kickoff
We start from your data, goals, audience, and deadline. You bring the science and the message; we tell you what’s possible and how to make it land.
2
Script & storyboard
We turn the science into a clear narrative and a visual plan you approve before any animation begins, so everyone’s aligned while changes are still cheap.
3
Style frames & 3D modeling
We lock the visual style and build accurate models of your molecule, device, or anatomy.
4
Animation & production
We animate, light, and render in structured review rounds, so your medical, legal, and marketing stakeholders can all sign off in step.
5
Delivery in every format
You get the master plus every version you need — congress, web, social, sales, subtitled, or interactive.
Timelines & What to Expect
You will always know what stage you’re in, what you’re approving, and what comes next. Most projects run 4–10 weeks from brief to delivery, depending on length and complexity. Working against a congress or launch date? Tell us the deadline up front. We plan the entire production backward from it and after 25 years of trade shows and launches, we’ve hit a lot of them.
Factors That Determine the Price of a Medical Device Animation
What exists already and what has to be built from zero is most of the difference. These are the factors that move the figure.
CAD, and what state it is in
Usable engineering geometry lowers the figure. Rebuilding a device from photographs raises it.
How much body has to be built
A device on a table is one project. The same device in situ, inside anatomy, is another.
Mechanism complexity
Showing what the device does, rather than what it looks like, is where the hours go.
Regulatory and IFU alignment
The use sequence has to match the instructions for use, and the claims have to survive review.
Deliverables, languages and format
Versions and languages are decided at the start, and a linear film, an interactive demo and an augmented reality piece are three different builds, not three finishes.

What do you need from us to start a medical device animation?
The ideal starting point is the 3D or CAD model of the device, which is how the MYTHRA project began: we worked from the model supplied by Novasonix and from real product references to reproduce materials, finishes and proportions. When there is no usable 3D model, it can be built from technical drawings, dimensions and photographs, although that adds modelling time to the project.
Can the animation be produced before the device is launched?
Yes. Because the animation is generated from the model and not from a physical unit, the piece can exist before the first production units do. That is one of the most common reasons medtech companies ask for it: distributor and sales-team training, investor meetings or a congress that falls before the commercial launch.
How long should a medical device animation be?
It depends on where it will be shown. MYTHRA was designed as a one-minute video, enough for a conceptual introduction, the reveal of the brand and the device, a full rotation and the key differentiators. A loop for a trade-show screen is usually shorter and works without narration; a technical or training piece can be longer and go into the operating sequence in more depth.
Can the same animation be used at trade shows, in sales meetings and on social media?
That is exactly how the MYTHRA piece was conceived. From a single production, different versions can be derived: shorter cuts, vertical or square formats for social media, versions with and without on-screen text, or the same render with text in another language, without going back to the modelling stage.
Does the animation have to be photorealistic?
Not always. Photorealistic rendering is the right choice when the message is design, materials and finishes, as with MYTHRA. When the message is a mechanism, an internal component or a clinical procedure, a more schematic or sectioned treatment often communicates better, and both approaches can coexist in the same piece.
How do you decide what to highlight and what to leave out?
By starting from the commercial message rather than from the product sheet. In the MYTHRA animation the technological differentiators were highlighted with graphical bullet points and on-screen text, which forces a decision about what really has to be understood in one minute. Everything that does not serve that message tends to weaken it, however interesting it may be technically.
Is a device animation the same as a mechanism of action animation?
No. A device animation focuses on the product: design, interface, components and how it is used. A mechanism of action animation focuses on the biological process that a drug or a treatment triggers inside the body. Companies that sell both a device and a therapy often need one of each, because the audience and the question being answered are different.
What happens if the device changes after the animation is finished?
If the base model and the narrative structure remain valid, the affected part can be adjusted and re-rendered without rebuilding the project from scratch. A change of colour, a new interface or a modified detail of the housing is normally a partial update; a redesign of the whole product is a new piece.
Can the animation be reused for training rather than sales?
Yes, and it is a frequent second life for these projects. The same model and the same camera work can be re-edited into a slower, more explanatory sequence for internal training or for teaching a practitioner how the system is set up and operated, changing the pace and the text instead of the 3D work.
Who is this type of animation aimed at?
Mainly at medical device and medical-aesthetic technology manufacturers, and at the distributors that represent them. The audience of the piece itself is usually the professional who buys or operates the equipment: clinics, aesthetic medicine practices, hospital purchasing teams and the specialists who will use the device day to day.
