Representation of how a drug acts within the body, at molecular scale and in stages. Developed for HIPRA on the Bimervax vaccine and for Laboratorios Salvat on UVESOL, the latter in virtual reality for its international launch at the CPHI trade fair.

The animation is generated from the 3D model of the device rather than from a manufactured unit, which makes the piece available at pre-launch stage: distributor network training, investor presentations or congresses ahead of the commercial date. Applied to the MYTHRA laser system by Novasonix Technology.

When the recipient is the patient, both the format and the level of technical detail change. For Medtronic we developed an interactive 360º experience, accessible from the browser and requiring no installation, about a system that adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes.

How Do We Work? What are the main steps to start a 3D Animation?

PHASE 1: Budget Creation To create a budget, the client must provide a brief script that outlines the key aspects of the project and a chronological sequence. This script can be textual and should ideally be accompanied by reference images and examples of the desired quality. Based on this initial script, we will provide an indicative budget.PHASE 2: Storyboard, Script, and Creativity Once the budget is approved, we will develop a storyboard so that the CLIENT can preview the creativity in terms of shots and cinematic framing. The client will have the opportunity to make any corrections or alterations necessary, and we will make the required changes until all of the client’s ideas are accurately represented. It is essential for the client to actively engage in this process as a co-author of the project. Based on all the ideas, project duration and work, we will provide the final project quote and request a deposit to begin the project.PHASE 3: Sending Previews During the 3D model development process, our company will send the CLIENT preview images of the work so that they can make necessary adjustments until they are fully satisfied. Client involvement is crucial, as they are co-authors in the project. Adjustments within the typical scope of any animation project are included in the budget. Once the project starts, any request that changes the script or content will be quoted for and a new budget given.PHASE 4: RENDERING Once the 3D model is complete and the CLIENT has approved the preview images, we will request written authorization to begin the rendering process, which usually takes between 48 and 120 hours. We generate 1500 images per minute of animation.PHASE 5: EDITING, SOUND, AND POST-PRODUCTION After the rendering process is complete, we will proceed with the linear editing of the animation. We have a team of voice actors to add any voiceover in any language.

Number of Different Scenarios: For example, it’s not the same to animate everything in a single scene as it is to animate 3 or more different scenes. If a drug treatment affects multiple organs, the number of 3D models will increase.
Complexity of the Animation: For highly technical and specific requests, custom 3D models are recommended, which increases the cost. Using pre-made 3D models can reduce costs by up to 30%.
Length of the Animation: The length is a key element. To create a 1-minute animation, 1500 images are required, which significantly affects the price. A 30-second animation will cost less than a 5-minute animation.
Voiceover in Multiple Languages: Adding voiceover in multiple languages is more expensive than just adding background music.
Resolution of the Animation: Higher resolutions, especially if required for large format screens, can increase costs. For instance, a 4K resolution may be necessary for large exhibitions.
Urgency: In urgent cases, we may need to work during nights or holidays or use render farms to speed up the rendering process, which can raise costs.

SCRIPT AND QUOTE

The client provides a short script setting out the key points of the project and their chronological order. It can be plain text, though reference images and an example of the quality sought both help. We send an indicative quote based on that material.

STORYBOARD

Once the quote is approved, a storyboard is drawn so the creative approach can be reviewed at the level of shots and framings before a single render exists. Corrections are made as many times as needed. With the final duration and workload set, the final quote is closed.

DEVELOPMENT

While the 3D models are built, preview images are sent to validate anatomy, materials and finishes. On interactive projects we also deliver the graphic design and a working prototype, so the interaction can be tested before programming begins.

RENDER AND SOUND

With the model approved, rendering begins: 1,500 images for every minute of animation commissioned. Video editing and sound follow, with sound effects and voice-over in any language.

DELIVERY

The content is integrated into the augmented or virtual reality application, or hosted on a web server. If the project is published on Google Play or the App Store, allow 10 to 15 days for store review.
