3D MEDICAL ANIMATION IN RALEIGH DURHAM

We are a 3D medical animation studio specialising in scientific and investor communication for Research Triangle biotech and pharma teams.

Animation for the stage where the science is proven but the story is not yet built.

The Research Triangle is early stage territory. Between the universities, the research park and the companies spun out of both, much of the work here is done before a product exists, when what has to be communicated is a mechanism and a plausible path forward.

That audience is unusual. A licensing partner, a scientific committee and an investor all have to follow the same animation, and they are looking for different things: rigour, novelty and risk.

We build this kind of piece regularly, including mechanism of action work for HIPRA on the Bimervax COVID-19 vaccine and for ESTEVE on Ozonest, both cases where the science had to be legible to non-specialists without being softened.

In practice that means one asset with layers: a short version for a first meeting, a full version for the data room, and the frames themselves reused in decks and publications.

3D Medical Animation for Raleigh-Durham’s Research Triangle

The Research Triangle — anchored by Duke, UNC, and NC State — is one of the most dynamic life sciences and biotech ecosystems in the U.S.

We work with Raleigh-Durham pharma, biotech, medical device, and research organizations. Our work turns complex science into clear 3D medical animation for congresses, investor communications, regulatory submissions, and clinical training.

Evidenze Agency and BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, headquartered in Durham, partnered with Pixel Medical Animation to create an immersive 3D visual experience for an awareness campaign on Hereditary Angioedema (HAE). Developed as part of the traveling exhibition “Putting a Face to Hereditary Angioedema”, the project combines scientific animation, interactive installations, and emotional storytelling to explain the disease and its real-life impact.

3D MEDICAL ANIMATION SERVICES

Mechanism of action for early stage science

The mechanism explained before there is a product to show, which is most of the work in a research park. Rigorous enough for a scientific committee, legible to an investor.

Investor and licensing presentations

One asset in layers: a short version for a first meeting, a full version for the data room, and frames reused across decks and documents.

Preclinical data visualisation

In vitro and animal model results turned into sequences that show what the data means without overstating what it proves.

Regulatory and scientific communication

Material for regulatory dossiers, advisory boards and scientific publications, built to be reviewed rather than admired.

BENEFITS OF 3D MEDICAL ANIMATION

4

Explaining science before there is a product

Most communication here happens years before a launch. The mechanism is the only thing there is to show.

5

Rigour that survives a committee

Built from your own data, at a level a scientific reviewer can check rather than take on trust.

4

Layered assets

A short version for a first meeting, a full version for the data room, stills for the dossier.

5

Preclinical data made legible

In vitro and model results shown for what they demonstrate, without implying more than they do.

5

Reuse across dossiers and publications

The same scenes exported as figures for papers, filings and partnering material.

3D MEDICAL ANIMATION FOR CLINICAL SPECIALTIES

We develop bespoke 3D medical animation projects tailored to specific medical disciplines, combining scientific accuracy, visual realism, and clear narrative design.

Each animation is created to effectively communicate procedures, treatments, and mechanisms across a wide range of medical specialties.

Person icon – patient education 3D medical animation

Genetics

Editing, expression and gene therapy mechanisms, which is where much of the early stage work here sits.

DNA helix icon – 3D animation for genetics and pharma visualization

Biotechnology

Platforms, vectors and processes explained to partners evaluating whether to license them.

Exosome icon – 3D molecular animation for biotechnology and cosmetics

Immunology

Immune mechanisms shown at the level a scientific committee will interrogate.

WORK PROCESS

1

Research and scripting

Each project starts with medical research and script development, ensuring scientific accuracy and visual consistency throughout the animation.

2

3D modeling and animation

All medical, biological, and pharmaceutical elements are modeled and animated in 3D with careful attention to realism and educational clarity.

3

Rendering and post-production

Each animation is produced in high resolution, incorporating visual effects, annotations, and graphic elements to ensure optimal performance across digital and live platforms.

FACTORS THAT DETERMINE THE PRICE OF A 3D MEDICAL ANIMATION

Project complexity

Pricing is affected by the quantity of 3D assets, the length of the animation, and the level of interactivity required.

Level of detail

Visualizing molecular or microscopic processes typically requires more development time and resources than animating external medical devices.

Delivery timeline

Production timelines depend on the project’s scope. Highly complex medical animations require extended schedules to achieve the highest quality standards.

FAQS

How much does a 3D medical animation cost?

It depends on duration, level of detail and resources required.

How long does production take?

Usually between 3 and 8 weeks, depending on complexity and final format.

What usage rights are granted?

Clients receive full ownership and usage rights for all final content.

What formats are delivered?

Full HD or 4K videos, optimized for web, congresses or medical e-learning platforms.

Can VR or AR be integrated?

Yes. We combine 3D medical animation with virtual and augmented reality to enhance immersion and learning.

How is scientific accuracy validated?

Each project is reviewed with clients and, when required, with external medical advisors to ensure scientific precision.

How do you work with a Research Triangle team from Europe?

Raleigh-Durham is six hours behind Barcelona, so there is a shared afternoon every day for calls. Most of the work runs asynchronously: we send versions with comments enabled, which fits how scientific founders in Raleigh-Durham tend to review, in gaps between other things.
